The results of the BBC competition – Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2011came out today.

The photo Still life in oil by Daniel Beltrá from Spain won the Grand Prize. In the other galleries I saw, in my humble opinion, better photos, but probably with this photo the jury wanted to reflect one of the greatest ecological disasters of the century – the oil spill from British Petroleum in the Gulf of Mexico.

Mateusz Piesiak from Poland took the prize for youths for his beautiful photo of an oystercatcher couple called Pester power.

Both pictures were taken with Canon equipment. You should definitely check out the rest of the photos in the other galleries. Many of them are also unique and very interesting just like winner’s photos.

This year Bence Máté won all six prizes in 2011 Eric Hosking Award, and he was also awarded with other prizes in the categories 2011 Behaviour: All Other Animals and 2011 Animal Portraits.

This year I took part in this competition for the first time and I managed to reach the final round.
